Managing boda income and weekly repayments
Boda income can vary day to day — fuel prices, weather, and demand all play a part. A few simple habits make it much easier to stay ahead of your weekly instalment.
Set aside your instalment daily, not weekly
Instead of waiting until your payment is due, put a small, consistent amount aside from each day's earnings. If your weekly payment is around UGX 47,000, that's roughly UGX 7,000 a day — much easier to manage than finding the full amount in one go.
Know your due date and pay on time
Late payments attract a daily penalty. Paying on or before your due date, every week, is the single most effective way to avoid extra costs.
Keep your Mobile Money account topped up before your due date
Don't wait until the last moment to move money into the account you use for repayments — network or agent delays can cost you if you leave it too late.
Separate business earnings from personal spending
Where possible, treat your repayment as a fixed business cost, similar to fuel or maintenance, and set it aside before spending on anything else.
Talk to Baikal before you miss a payment, not after
If you know in advance that a payment will be difficult — illness, an accident, a slow week — contact your branch or WhatsApp us immediately. It's always easier for us to help before a payment is missed than after.
Consider paying early when you can
If you have a strong week, paying ahead reduces what you owe sooner and can shorten your overall repayment period. Early repayment is allowed — confirm any details with your financing officer first.
