As a boda rider, you're on the road far more than most drivers — which means small safety habits compound into a big difference over time. None of this replaces official traffic law or training; it's a practical reminder list.
Protective gear, every ride
- Wear a properly fastened helmet on every trip, including short ones
- Use a reflective jacket, especially for early morning, evening and night riding
- Keep spare gear dry and in good condition — worn-out straps and cracked helmets don't protect you
Carrying passengers safely
- Only carry the number of passengers your motorcycle and license permit
- Offer a helmet to passengers where possible
- Wait until passengers are securely seated before moving off
Riding habits that reduce risk
- Keep to safe speeds, especially in traffic, at junctions, and in poor weather
- Maintain following distance — sudden stops are common in Kampala traffic
- Avoid riding when fatigued; tired reactions are slow reactions
- Check mirrors and blind spots before every turn or lane change

A valid riding permit isn't just a requirement of your financing agreement — it confirms you've met a baseline of road knowledge that protects you and your passengers.
