Understanding motorcycle insurance and GPS tracking
Every motorcycle financed through Baikal carries comprehensive insurance and a GPS tracking device for the life of the loan. Here's why both matter, and what they actually mean for you.
Insurance: protecting you and the motorcycle
You're required to maintain comprehensive insurance with an insurer approved by Baikal, naming Baikal as the loss payee, for as long as your loan is outstanding. This protects you from bearing the full cost of an accident, theft, or major damage on your own, and protects the asset that's securing your loan.
If your insurance lapses, Baikal may arrange cover on your behalf and recover the cost from you — so it's always better to renew on time yourself.
GPS tracking: asset protection, not surveillance for its own sake
Financed motorcycles are fitted with a tracking device. Its purpose is straightforward: to help locate the motorcycle if it's lost or stolen, and to support loan monitoring during the financing period.
Tampering with the device, or refusing access for checks and repairs, is treated as a default under your agreement — because it undermines the very protection the device is there to provide, for both you and Baikal.
What to do if something happens
- Report any accident to the police and to Baikal immediately, and start an insurance claim.
- Report theft to the police and Baikal immediately — loss or theft does not exempt you from your repayment obligations, so acting fast matters.
- Never disconnect or tamper with the GPS device, even temporarily.
