How to qualify for boda boda financing in Uganda

Baikal Finance looks at a few clear things when assessing a boda financing application. Knowing them before you apply means fewer surprises and a faster decision.

1. Verifiable income or an active boda stage

If you're already riding, being attached to a recognised boda stage helps confirm your earning pattern. If you're a first-time rider, you'll need to show a realistic plan for how the motorcycle will generate income — for example, a specific route, stage, or delivery arrangement you intend to work.

2. Valid identification

You'll need a National ID with a valid National Identification Number (NIN). This applies to you and to your guarantor.

3. An eligible guarantor

Your guarantor needs valid ID and must consent to being contacted if you become unreachable. Choose someone reliable who understands they're taking on real responsibility if you default.

4. A working mobile number

You'll receive updates and make weekly payments using Mobile Money, so a working number registered in your name (or one you control) is essential.

5. An acceptable Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) check

Baikal checks your CRB record as part of every assessment. Existing loans in default elsewhere can affect your outcome, so it's worth checking your own standing before you apply if you're unsure.

6. The approved deposit

Your indicative deposit depends on the motorcycle and your assessment outcome. Having savings ready — even before you're approved — puts you in a stronger position to move quickly once a financing officer confirms your amount.

What strengthens an application

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval — every application goes through the same assessment. See our FAQ for more detail, or the full Boda Boda Financing page for terms.
